Posted on Monday, August 6, 2007
Tightrope Media Systems announced today that it has released the Cablecast SX 2, Cablecast SX 4 and Cablecast SX LE video servers. The Cablecast SX series video servers are all multi-format capable, playing back MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DV25, DVCAM, DVCPRO, DVCPRO50, Windows Media, QuickTime, and H.264. The Cablecast SX 2 and Cablecast SX 4 video servers both encode and decode MPEG2 in both 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 profile at up to 50Mbps as well as encoding DV25. Both servers also feature both composite and SDI outputs as well as embedded audio on the SDI output and balanced XLR connectors for the analog output. The Cablecast SX 2 lists for $11,950 and features two channels out and one encoder channel with 2TB storage in a RAID5 configuration, while the Cablecast SX 4 lists for $19,950 and features four channels out, two encoder channels and 4TB in RAID5. The Cablecast SX LE is a lower cost version of the Cablecast SX 2 and lists for $7,950. It is an analog video server with two channels out and one channel in that encodes and decodes at up to 15mbps. It comes with 500GB of internal storage, and as with all Cablecast servers, it can also be operated with attached storage. SDI output and MPEG-2 4:2:2 performance are both available options on the Cablecast SX LE. “The Cablecast SX series video servers offer unparalleled performance in many markets, especially the Public, Educational and Government access channel environment”, stated Tightrope Media Systems co-founder Andrew Starks. “Each server includes Cablecast Station Automation software that schedules and controls all playout hardware including DVD and tape decks, downstream keying, routing switchers, and Tightrope’s own Carousel Bulletin Board. The Cablecast SX servers are also completely integrated with Tightropes Cablecast SX Live streaming media server as well as the Cablecast SX VOD media server for internet video on demand”. According to Tightrope Media Systems CEO, JJ Parker; the Cablecast SX series video servers offer television stations broadcast quality specifications at an unbelievable price point. “Cablecast SX servers, which have the ability to encode and decode MPEG 4:2:2 at up to 50 Mbps, the ability to play advanced codec’s such as H.264, and with a Serial Digital Interface playing embedded audio would be right at home at a broadcast facility”, he stated. “We are very pleased to be able to offer this level of performance and future-proofing to schools and universities, as well public, educational and government access facilities”.
