MELBOURNE, Florida, May 11, 2012 — Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has been recognized as a 2012 "Best for Vets" employer by Military Times EDGE Magazine. The list recognizes companies that go above and beyond the call of duty for their military and veteran employees.
Harris was ranked 33 on the list. More than 1,000 companies were surveyed and selection was based on a detailed questionnaire about recruiting and hiring policies, social recognition for veterans and pay and benefits for reservists. Some of the other companies recognized included USAA, JPMorgan Chase & Company, General Electric, CSC, and The Boeing Company.
"Thousands of veterans return to the civilian workforce annually, representing a rich resource of talented and motivated employees who help companies like Harris to grow and compete more effectively," said Jeff Shuman, senior vice president, chief Human Resources and Administrative officer of Harris. "We are proud to share this recognition with the other companies that are committed to hiring and supporting veterans."
Harris has more than 1,800 veterans among its 17,000 employees. The company has specific programs focused on military recruitment, with employees dedicated to sourcing and hiring candidates with military-related skill sets or with prior military experience. In addition, Harris recruiters participated in more than 30 military-related career events within a 1-year period. Harris also has a custom process through which wounded veterans and their spouses can apply directly to Harris with resumes routed through a separate portal to the company's career site.
